CRANIAL OSTEOPATHY

Cranial Osteopathy

is a subtle type of osteopathic treatment that uses gentle techniques to release tension and stress patterns throughout the body. It is a gentle yet extremely effective approach and may be used in a wide range of conditions for people of all ages, from birth to the elderly.
Treatment often focuses on the bones of the skull, which is why it is called cranial osteopathy, but as osteopathy is a holistic therapy other parts of the body are involved, such as the spine and sacrum. If the pelvis is twisted, tilted or unbalanced it will have an effect through the sacrum and its attachments all the way up the spine and into the base of the cranium.

How does it work?
Cranial osteopaths are trained to feel for the natural rhythm that is present in all body tissues. When the body is under physical or emotional stress this natural rhythm is disturbed, the body tissues tighten up and the body finds it hard to return to normal. Cranial osteopaths can feel any disruption to the normal pattern of movement and encourage the body to re-establish a healthy cranial rhythm through subtle manipulation of the skull and other parts of the body.

What can cranial osteopathy treat?

Cranial osteopathy doesn’t just treat the symptoms but the root cause of a problem. In adults it maybe used in the treatment of a variety of problems including headaches and migraines, epilepsy, sinus pain, stress, malaise, fatigue and general ill health. In newborn babies it is especially effective for treating colic, teething problems, glue ear, and disturbed sleep patterns.

Who can benefit?
As cranial osteopathy is very gentle it’s suitable for all ages, from the elderly to babies.
